چکیده

objectives: the aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the retentive strength of orthodontic bands cemented with amorphous calcium phosphate (acp)-containing and conventional glass ionomer cements (gics). materials and methods: one-hundred-and-twenty mandibular third molars were embedded in acrylic resin blocks with the buccal surface of crowns perpendicular to the base of the mold. the teeth were randomly divided into four groups containing 30 teeth each. groups 1 and 3 were cemented using conventional gic and groups 2 and 4 were cemented using acp-containing orthodontic cement. groups 1 and 2 without thermocycling, and groups 3 and 4 after thermocycling (5000 cycles, 5 ° to 55 ° c) were tested for retentive strength using a universal testing machine (crosshead speed of 1mm/minute). two-way anova was performed to compare the retentive strength of the groups. results: the highest retentive strength belonged to group 1, and it was significantly higher than that of group 2 (p<0.001) and group 3 (p=0.02). the mean strength for group 2 was significantly lower than that of group 1 (p<0.001) and group 4 (p=0.04). conclusions: although retentive strength decreased when acp was added to gic, the retentive strength of the samples cemented by acp-containing gic was remarkably high after thermocycling. it seems that in the oral cavity, acp-containing gic provides sufficient strength to endure forces applied on posterior teeth. keywords: glass ionomer cements; amorphous calcium phosphate; retention

A Comparative Evaluation of Microleakage of Glass Ionomer Cement and Chitosan-modified Glass Ionomer Cement: An in vitro Study

OBJECTIVE To do a comparative study of microleakage of glass ionomer cement (GIC) and chitosan modified glass ionomer cement and evaluate which exhibited lesser microleakage. MATERIALS AND METHODS Sixty freshly extracted sound primary molar teeth were obtained. Two groups of samples were created for the study which comprised of group I (glass ionomer cement-GIC) and group II (Chitosan modifie...

Bond strength of an amorphous calcium phosphate-containing orthodontic adhesive.

OBJECTIVE To determine whether an amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP)-containing adhesive has an acceptable level of shear bond strength to be used as an orthodontic adhesive. MATERIALS AND METHODS Sixty extracted premolars were randomly divided into three groups for orthodontic bonding. Group 1 used a composite resin adhesive (Transbond XT), group 2 was bonded with an ACP-containing adhesive (...

Comparison of the solubility of three resin cements and a resin-modified glass ionomer cement: An in vitro study

Background and aims: Solubility is an important property of luting cements in determining clinical durability. The aim of this study was to compare the solubility of Panavia, Calibra and Maxcem resin cements with that of GC Fuji PLUS resin modified glass ionomer cement in three different pH values. Materials and Methods: A total of 96 specimens were prepared (8mm diameter, 4mm thickness) accor...

The Effect of Cigarette Smoking on Solubility and Disintegration of Resin Modified Glass Ionomer Cement – An In Vitro Study

Introduction: Glass ionomer cement (GIC) is a dental restorative material that is prone to solubility and degradation. GIC could degrade in presence of water and desiccation due to environmental factors during setting process and eventually might lead to the failure of the restoration. Cigarette smoking brings a complex chemical mixture to oral cavity that can inhibit polymeriz...

Bond strength of orthodontic light-cured resin-modified glass ionomer cement.

The purpose of this study was to compare the bond strengths and debonded interfaces achieved with light-cured resin-modified glass ionomer cement (RMGIC) and conventional light-cured composite resin. In addition, the effects of acid etching and water contamination were examined. One hundred human premolars were randomly divided into five equal groups. The mini Dyna-lock upper premolar bracket w...
